Bioinformatics
Modern Biology is data-driven, and Bioinformatics combines Biology with computing to analyze and interpret large datasets. This course introduces powerful computational tools used to study large-scale genetic sequencing, sequence similarity analysis, protein structure prediction, and machine learning methods. It highlights the interdisciplinary nature of Bioinformatics and its role in modern biology and medicine. The laboratory component familiarizes students with web-based tools like BLAST, PyMOL, and biological databases, as well as clustering algorithms, machine learning techniques, and basic programming in Python, R, and Unix shell scripting. Students will also learn to read and interpret primary literature, identify research questions, write reports, and deliver oral presentations.
