HUM 5002 Introduction to the Study of Religion

This course explores the discipline of religious studies following Ninian Smart's paradigm of the eight dimensions of religion: doctrinal, ritual, mythical, experiential, ethical, social, material, and political. Each dimension will be explored through Smart's description of it, primary sources and secondary readings. This is not a World Religions course; religions will not be introduced in a systematic way, but rather through encounters related to the dimension discussed in that unit.
