COM 1310 Mathematics for Computer Science

The course will introduce students to a variety of topics in discrete mathematics that are essential for a Computer Science career. It emphasizes mathematical definitions and proofs as well as applicable methods. Topics include formal logic notation, proof methods; induction, well-ordering; sets, relations; elementary graph theory; asymptotic notation and growth of functions; permutations and combinations, and counting principles. The Python programming language will be introduced during the first few weeks and assignments will require programming in Python. Prerequisite(s): COM 1300.
