HOL 6672 History of Jews in Lithuania: The Long Duree

This course aims to situate the history of Lithuanian Jewry in a historical context. The instructor will demonstrate the uniqueness of Lithuanian Jews in the regional political and cultural context. We have chosen 13 topics to present the most critical aspects of Jewish life in Lithuania in a long historical period from the Middle Ages to the contemporary years. The collaboration between Vilnius University and Yeshiva University will bring various perspectives on how to approach Jewish life in Lithuania. The course is offered to both YU and Vilnius University students and encourages their cooperation by participating in seminars, sharing knowledge, and preparing the coursework.
