JTH 2220 Ta'amei Hamitzvot

Course will cover the major views regarding the legitimacy of finding rationale for the commandments and different methodologies for suggesting reasons. We will offer a survey of various rationale for the mitzvot including historical, mystical, symbolic and sociological. The course will be primarily (but not exclusively) based on the Sefer Hachinuch, Moreh Hanevuchim and Horeb.
