JUD 2627 Corporate Structure in Halacha

This course will focus on understanding how Halacha governs the structure of businesses in the modern economy. Corporations as mechanisms to raise large amounts of capital are not an especially new idea. However the notion that corporations can operate in some ways as individual persons is something that does not clearly appear in Jewish Law. This course will seek to understand what exactly the role of business agreements between parties can and cannot accomplish as well as what independence a corporation may have in Jewish Law. We will look at investments, partnerships, limited liability agreements and bankruptcy protections for business entities and individuals through the lens of Halacha.
