PHY 5142 Visual Languages for Physics I

Abstract concepts such as groups, linear spaces, linear transformations and algebra are essential to formulating, analyzing and eventually solving the physics of complex systems. This course formulates many of these concepts in a visual language which uses diagrams, pictures and patterns rather than abstract operads. Students will master this language through examples ranging from pattern recognition to group representations and special theory. They will also learn how to solve concrete problems which otherwise will appear extremely difficult when attacked with traditional methods.
