BIOL 3830 Neurobiology

Nerve cells and their organization into complex nervous systems; major concepts in neurobiology, including impulse conduction, synaptic transmission, sensory processing, motor function, and memory. Labs include discussion of the properties of human stem cells, neural stem cells and ways to derive, differentiate and maintain them in vitro; an overview of the approaches for deriving 3D mini human brain cultures (also called cerebral organoids) and how this technology may inform the way we study basic biology and developmental diseases. (lecture: 3 hours; lab: 3 hours) Laboratory fee. Prerequisite(s): BIOL 1012 and BIOL 1014.
