ENGL 2791 Children's Literature

In this course, students will read and discuss works in the history of literature written for child readers. They will study historical conceptions of childhood and child development, the origins of children's literature in devotional literature, didactic plays, and genre fiction, and the use of allegory for instruction and delight. Students will write papers that use formal, historical, and theoretical approaches to analyze these works. Prerequisite(s): ENGL 1100 or ENGL 1200.
