This two-semester course combines didactic course work and applications of treatment in the assessment and cognitive behavioral treatment of anxiety and depressive disorders: panic disorder, agoraphobia, social phobia, post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, specific phobia, and depression. Students will (a) learn how to comprehensively assess anxiety and depressive disorders (b) learn to implement and conduct cognitive behavior strategies for anxiety and depressive disorders using simulated exercises, role-plays, illustrative case examples and videotapes; cognitive behavior strategies include cognitive restructuring, breathing retraining, deep muscle relaxation, exposure, activity scheduling, problem solving, contingency procedures, and skills training. Prerequisite(s): PSC 6471.
