DENT 6147 Medical Emergencies I

This course introduces the recognition, prevention, and management of medical emergencies that may occur in the dental setting. Students learn the pathophysiology, clinical signs, risk factors, and treatment protocols for common emergencies including syncope, allergic reactions, hypoglycemia, seizures, asthma, angina, myocardial infarction, and cardiac arrest. Simulation-based training emphasizes emergency preparedness, use of emergency drugs and equipment, team-based response, and effective communication. The course prepares students to respond quickly and effectively to ensure patient safety and to collaborate with healthcare professionals in emergency situations.
