SWK 6810 Social Work Practice with the Military

This course focuses on the specific issues of those who serve in the military and social worker responses to those needs. This course will explore the nature of war and its impact on those who are physically and mentally wounded, as well as their loved ones and caregivers. Students will be introduced to a theoretical orientation to combat stress, which acknowledges the stressors of war and the adaptations made by those engaged in battle. Students will be provided with an overview of the management of various war related physical and mental health challenges for returning war veterans. Students are introduced to intervention strategies specifically designed for work with the war injured and their families and caregivers.
