Credit Hour Limits for Academic Minors This policy establishes credit hour limits for undergraduate academic minors that align with major requirements and electives. An academic minor is a progression of courses in a discipline that supplements a student’s major field of study. The minor will appear on a student’s transcript. A standard minor will require no less than 12 credit hours, as specified in the “Programs of Study” section of this catalog. No more than 6 credit hours may be shared (double dipped) between a student's major and minor programs. This limit guarantees that students can complete their full degree programs within a realistic period of time while maintaining the integrity of the academic programs. Students must maintain a minimum 2.000 GPA in minor coursework in order to pursue a minor. Minors must correspond with the school’s learning objectives and must include well-defined course sequencing and prerequisites. A student may take a maximum of two minors. This is consistent with our Course Share Policy. While students are not permitted to declare majors in two different schools, they may declare a minor in another school from the one in which they are pursuing their major. For example, a student at Stern College may pursue a minor in Sy Syms School of Business.
