University Catalog > University Policies > Undergraduate Policies > Incomplete Grades
Incomplete (I) grades may be given by faculty to accommodate unavoidable delays in the completion of the course requirements and to allow for excused medical emergencies. All outstanding work to resolve the Incomplete must be submitted to the faculty by the given deadline.
If the work is not submitted by the deadline, the I grade will default to the grade designated by the faculty member based on work completed. Completion dates are posted on the official Academic Calendar, and work must be completed by this date.
Students approved for makeup exams
The academic calendar indicates mandatory final exam makeup dates for students whose request for an exam deferral was approved by the Dean’s office due to an emergency or other extenuating circumstances. Students must plan to make up exams on the date indicated on the academic calendar.
Satisfaction of an Incomplete Grade
For an I grade to be satisfied, students are responsible for completing their work by the following dates:
February 15 for I grades assigned for the previous fall semester
September 15 for I grades assigned for the previous spring and summer semester.
Faculty are responsible to issue a final grade one week after the work is completed, or the I grade will default to the grade designated by the faculty member based on work completed according to the schedule above.
Extending the Deadline for Removal of an Incomplete Grade
If there is reason to extend the deadline for an I grade, it is the student’s responsibility to initiate this by emailing a request to the instructor. The instructor must notify the Office of the Registrar before the deadline for Satisfaction of Incomplete Grade.
